BREAKAWAY® Wound Dressing
BREAKAWAY WOUND DRESSING
SUGGESTED APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS
Cutaneous Ulcers And Draining Wounds
- Select a BreakAway Dressing larger than wound area.
- BreakAway Dressing may be applied dry or wet. If desired soak dressing with saline or solution of choice. Squeeze out excess fluid, do not wring out.
--OR--
Apply topical ointment or cream directly to wound contact layer or to wound surface. The BreakAway Dressing is compatible with all topical ointments or creams. (NOTE: Back of dressing is marked "OTHER SIDE AGAINST WOUND".)
- Secure dressing with elastic netting, roll gauze, or window pane with tape.· Change BreakAway Dressing daily.
- To Remove: Simply lift end of dressing to expose the
N-TERFACE® wound contact layer. Hold down the wound contact layer and gently separate the absorbent pad component. The wound can be cleansed through the N-TERFACE wound contact layer before removing. If the N-TERFACE wound contact layer is left in place on the wound a complete BreakAway Dressing may be applied over it. Two layers of N-TERFACE Material do not interfere with the absorption of exudate.
- The BreakAway feature eliminates the need to soak off or tease away absorbent dressings. The N-TERFACE Material Wound Contact Layer provides you with the option of examining the wound prior to removal. Only the BreakAway Wound Dressing has a releasably attached wound contact layer!
Skin Grafting
- Select size of BreakAway Wound Dressing large enough to extend beyond graft margin.
- BreakAway Dressing may be used wet or dry. If preferred, soak dressing in saline or solution of choice. Squeeze out excess fluid (do not wring out dressing). The BreakAway Dressing conforms better when moist.
OPTION 1:
- Remove N-TERFACE Material Wound Contact Layer from BreakAway Dressing. Apply wound contact layer over graft. Wound contact layer should extend beyond the graft margin. Staple in place if desired.
- Apply absorbent pad component of BreakAway Dressing. Secure in place with elastic netting, roll gauze or with preferred outer wrap.
- Remove absorbent pad component at desired time. If preferred, wound contact layer may remain in place for desired length of time or until healed. Redress with complete BreakAway Dressing. NOTE: Multiple layers of the N-TERFACE Wound Contact Layer will not decrease the absorption capabilities of the BreakAway Wound Dressing.
OPTION 2:
- Apply BreakAway Dressing wound contact side to graft. Secure in place. Good graft contact is essential for proper absorption.
- Remove BreakAway Dressing at desired time. Hold wound contact layer in place and separate absorbent pad component. Move hand along wound contact layer while separating to avoid lifting.
- If wound contact layer is adherent to graft leave in place until healed or cleanse through the wound contact layer and remove.
- Redress with a complete BreakAway Dressing and secure in place with preferred wraps.
